Requiem is pretty cool

This free MMORPG has tremendous potential and it's already pretty good. My experience logging into the game was met with lots of mixed feelings. I played to level 11. I guess that's over a couple of hours of play or more.

The login screen was great. Character creation was not. I couldn't even see close enough to pick a character's face yet that was the entire point...

In the end I earned level 10 and got a cooler set of armor. The combat is very GOOD. Still, they started my Bartuk out with some sort of g string armor in the beginning. Most games at least give you cool stuff to wear even if just rags.

The art direction with its realistic blood and gore horror genre was done right most of the time. It's still very anime oriented though which is why I did not choose any except Bartuk.

The death animations (limb seizures) were easy to get over after a while but shocking at first because this has never been in any game I have ever played before. There was still no way to turn it off. Why? You can turn blood off. Deaths were stupid sometimes though like they're making snow angels in the ground.

At this point I was getting into the more technical parts of Requiem,

Names above player's heads seemed alien and not from the game at all. The font almost even looks like a Microsoft Windows default font. Most games that do names above player's heads do it with a soft font so that it appears somewhat to be welcome in the 3D world. There were also strange guild icons that distracted me from the game.

Some of the sounds are too loud. I ran around spamming Intensification which made my character shout something over and over.

Quest triggers around the world still allowed me to activate them even if I didn't have the quest for them.

Quest text windows would often just end words at the end of a line and send the rest of the word to the beginning of the next line. Like this: Intens
ification.

I could not bind skill slots to my middle mouse button and certain key combinations are not supported either (such as: Alt + 1).

When looking at the world map my character would spin if I attempted to move with the map on. The map was great though.

I ran into a quest trigger with strange characters for the name when I put my mouse over it. I was looking for Ant Larvae for a quest and the quest told me they were located on Desert Ant Hill. It was actually called Sand Hell. I figured it out on my own in the end but that didn't stop me from walking completely in and around it for miles before I did.

A tower had a metal gate blocking the way up the stairs. I wanted to climb it and see the top and jump off so I attempted to jump past it. There was an invisible wall keeping me from doing so.

Character attributes do not have any definitions as to what they do so I had no clue what I was doing when itemizing my character.

Putting a 2H weapon and a 1H weapon with shield on my bar allowed me to equip them but once the shield was equipped I got the message "You must unequip the shield first."

and the final main problem of the game: Player lag. Most of the time I could not really tell which way a player was headed or if they were standing still. This sort of thing is probably deep in the code of how the game updates player positioning but it is indeed very game breaking to any form of combat.

Still the game was enjoyable because of a cool combat, items, and quest system. Well, quests and items, most of the time. The combat was good at standstill. I'm sure it might even be fun to run around in circles sometimes but let's face it. Serious PvP in Requiem will never be taken seriously until it is fixed.
